Beginnings and Endings
So, how many of you still think we’re in Berlin? Because, um, since then we’ve been to London, Hawaii, and home for almost three weeks. Maybe no one is even reading this anymore, in which case I can basically write whatever I want without fear of retribution (I still love the Backstreet Boys so much it hurts a little; sometimes I put empty Nutella jars back into the cupboard ...continue reading

Paris, Je T’aime
Okay, I know the title of this blog post is basically the worst, but I couldn’t think of anything cleverer and also I’m not terribly original. To wit: This awful black and white photostrip of us in a photobooth at a movie theatre in Paris. Mark is mostly kissing my scarf, since I don’t believe in PDA.
We spent a week in Paris, in an apartment we rented in ...continue reading

Tropical Visions and Travel Decisions
Hello from Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon. We have big news, but I’ll string you along to the end of the post to reveal it. It does NOT involve babies, so you can all just keep your pants on.
After arriving in Hoi An, we mostly just did a whole lot of walking, eating, and having clothes made at the tailors. Oh, and we had some massages. It was all pretty ...continue reading

Long Hue Round

Whew… It’s been a busy few days. I apologize in advance if this is a crazy-long post, but we just have so much to tell you!
As Pia mentioned, after Hanoi and Ha Long Bay we headed to the center of the country to the small-ish city of Hue (pronounced hway), which is just South of the DMZ (demilitarized zone that once separated North and South Vietnam). After the frenetic ...continue reading

Vietnam: Something something rhyming something
Hello ladies and germs! My god, I am hilarious.
Guys, please comment on my blogs. Mark gets all the love and I have resorted to begging. I will respond to anyone who comments with a personalized compliment and/or treasured memory about them that I would have otherwise kept to myself. Incentive!
We are in Hue, Vietnam now ...continue reading

Deer Attacks and Geisha Packs
We spent eight nights in Kyoto, but have surprisingly few pictures to show for it. I think this has a lot to do with a little bit of travel fatigue on our parts. Once we got there, we sort of crashed for a few days. We did a little bit of sightseeing, but also a lot of catching up on sleep/quiet time. One really nice thing about staying ...continue reading

Mark and Pia Go To (A) White Castle
So…yeah. This is a restaurant we walked past in Kumamoto. We would have gone in but were too terrified of what we might end up ordering. I mean, cabbages are disgusting.
After leaving Takayama, we took a couple of trains farther south to Hiroshima. It’s a very nice city, with wide streets and super easy to ...continue reading

Home Is Wherever I’m With You
We’re home! And, um, have been for almost two weeks. I kind of forgot about this blog as soon as we drove off the ferry. The promise of free laundry, a home-cooked meal and some interaction with humans besides each other has been like a warm balm to our road-weary souls. Maybe that’s a touch dramatic, but if I never again ...continue reading

Canucks Of The Caribbean
After a few days of theme parks (which did their best to ensure that we were sick of Christmas even earlier than usual), we got on a 7-day Caribbean cruise that we were able to book last-minute for really cheap. We were very enthusiastic about the opportunity to slow the pace down a little, get some work done, relax, etc.
We left from Port Canaveral, which is right ...continue reading

Fall Colours, Surprised Mothers, and a Gigantic Fiddle
Let’s see… when my lovely wife left off we had just reached Halifax, or as I like to think of it, the East Coast’s Victoria. It really did feel a lot like our home town, even though we were on the opposite side of the country. I think the fact that it rained a whole bunch ...continue reading
